Not as conveniently located as other popular beach communities in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, Anna Maria Island offers serenity and calmness instead. No three stories hotels or fancy boutiques here ─ just an old town feel with a whole lot less tourism. Even the night life is low key and most of the shops and restaurants close early.
There’s no doubt that Anna Maria has a distinctly different feel than the other popular beaches such as Lido, Longboat, and Siesta…Anna Maria has a distinctly “local” feel. So if you are looking to truly get away this is the place for you. With little hotel lodging options most visitors stay in condos or rental homes which book fast.
However, just because Anna Maria is less “touristy” doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. It’s the perfect place to walk or bike along naturally landscaped paths, watch the dolphins swim by at the City Pier, cast a fishing line in the crystal clear water, go for a horseback ride along the shore line, or try kayaking, paddle boarding or even parasailing.
Anna Maria Island is also known for it’s great restaurants. The Beach House is the perfect spot to dine and catch a breathtaking sunset, the Beach Bistro has some of the best food anywhere, and the Sign of the Mermaid is the ideal romantic restaurant.
